I watched way too many Tiktok videos and now I want to not look in the mirror and reminded I’m not dressing my best Goth self!

Gen-Z’s have bought out Tiktok and Millenials and Baby Boomers may love or hate us for it, but we would still make videos. Here are some tips you can actually try making a TikTok for, so you can gain more followers or engagement. 

For people in India (where the app Tiktok has been banned because of the ongoing tensions between China and India), these would work on Instagram reels too.

  • The bitter truth- trends

Goths don’t really care for trends and that might be good but speaking from a content point of view, trends on TikTok are one way to get people’s attention. The TikTok algorithm works to push the kind of ‘trend’ that the user has been engaging on, and thus it basically pushes that on the top of your feed. With Reels although, the algorithm is a bit different and there is still little information because it is quite new. However, the content works in the way of popularity basis (As understood by August). The more you interact with a creator, the more they’ll pop up on your feed.

  • Music

The key is not really to use popular music but the one that fits in with the mood. Music customization will be achieved through these apps. Using popular music although does give you an edge but be sure to go ahead and be original when it comes to it.

 

  • Relatable content

Content that is made to be ‘relatable’ actually does pretty well because it evokes an emotional response from the audience. There is a high likeability of people responding and engaging with the content when you talk about your problems, your achievements, or your own reactions. 

 

  • Hashtags

This is a weird scenario where you have to optimize your chances and discoveries through it. This is a tricky business and you need to learn them on your own. There are several creators that teach you how to use hashtags to your own advantage. Reels are way trickier in the area because reels don’t really up on feeds due to hashtags and it's up to debate if they work at all or not.

  • Time and content are the sweet spot

This becomes a bit harder because there aren’t insights that actually tell you what posts are doing better or aren’t. However, you need to depend on yourself to check it. for example, there are certain times when your post will just boost. While others, it can just tank. The important thing to remember is to keep paying attention to these trends so you can grow organically and keep hitting that time when the platform will give you more exposure.

Anyway, this is how the algorithm works right now. Be a bit patient study the algorithm especially on reels because it changes so quickly.
