Goth fashion in the Hijab

Now, let us first start with the fact that we are specifically talking about the Hijab. There seems to be a lot of confusion between other cultures with people using the term Hijab, burka and Niqab interchangeably. The west essentially looks at this sort of veiling with discontent as it sees it as oppression. We’d rather get into that later (it is more than just a mere cultural topic of oppression but has other tangents to it that isn’t revealed through education).

There are roughly six types of clothing that are confused with the Hijab. They are: Niqab, Burka, Al-Amira, Shayla, Khimar and Chador. There is not enough time to explain all of them in detail. However, we’d explain what the Hijab is. “the headscarves worn by Muslim women. These scarves come in many styles and colors. The type most commonly worn in the West covers the head and neck but leaves the face clear.” (bbc.co.uk)

We have seen one of the most vibrant communities in the Hijab culture and we are here to tell you about it. We are so busy with the generalization of the community that we forget that they do have a flourishing culture with themselves. It was a delight to see that Goth exists even in other cultures as well.

We are here in general to shed light on the fact that they use hijab to enhance their Goth look and create their own statement of Goth. So, if we do have someone reading this article who is struggling to find inspiration because you wear a Hijab, we tell you, there are many creative ways you can still incorporate it in your day-to-day life.

  • Black boots

Start with those babies. They are huge in the Goth community and for good reason. They make a statement and keep the spirit of Goth alive. They are an easy item on the list too.

  • Silver accessories

You won’t even probably buy these. Your mother would have a treasure. We belong from a culture where jewelries are looked at as favorable. Use them. Flex them. This is the best way to do so.

  • Designer Hijab

If you want to go a step further, you can actually take up a Gothic print Hijab. Better yet, I knew a friend who used to sew them herself. Again, it isn’t uncommon in our culture to learn sewing at an early age (please don’t feel that I’m generalizing. Of course, it does depend on personal interest but it isn’t that uncommon as well.)

  • Use that kajal/soorma/kohl

Different things for different purposes, but you can do it all to create your perfect Goth look. A heavy dark eye makeup won’t be essentially frowned upon and you can use it without a lot of parental hindrance.

We know, these aren’t a lot for someone who is looking to become a full-fledged fashion stylist in the Hijab (We really need more people who are willing to do so). But it is a start. If you feel that we are wrong about something in the article (something that hurts your religious sentiments), please let us know. We are here to learn more about your culture and represent you appropriately.
