Technicolor makeup

Technicolor makeup is exactly what it sounds like. It’s full of bizarre shades and the wildness of it makes it into the list here. Why we chose to write about it? Because it might not be Goth but it definitely can be adopted and help us. Of course, we don’t restrict its use in any genre of Goth but we think that it would work marvelously in the field of Pastel Goth, Cyber Goth and Industrial Goth. You are welcome to try it in any genre that you like too.

However, let’s first talk about what is Technicolor makeup? We do need to give it a official meaning. Technicolor makeup is the use of bright, poppy shades of color of contrasting undertones to build a makeup look that would come together when it is brought to practical application. It isn’t a very recent phenomenon and has been present in the Hollywood industry for quite a while. Even mainstream makeup artists use it today.

There has been a revival of the makeup trend after the 2015s and has been recreated by many artists time and again. For example, Rihanna’s ‘Rude Boy’ and ‘Who’s that chick?’ used Technicolor makeup on her. The reason why we are bringing this up now is that since the pastel Goth has entered the fashion scenario of the Goth culture, it needs a little bend in the tradition of makeup that we have. If we can rock the black lipstick, might as well rock the colors with a rebellious attitude.

Rebellious because nothing about the Technicolor makeup is ‘normal’. One might even say that they cannot figure in main stream media. Some even claim that the nude makeup looks are an extreme reaction to the Technicolor makeup. However, not getting in the dynamics of politics and history anymore, let us talk about some of the basic features of the makeup. It is up to you to decide if you feel like incorporating it in the Goth scene.

As stated earlier, the undertones are different. Thus, a lot of primary colors are to be seen. Primary colors are the ones that cannot be mixed with other colors to obtain. For example, red is a primary color but purple is a secondary color because red and blue are mixed together to make the color purple. The colors have an essence of being neon-ish or at least bright. Glitters are a huge on the scene. However, recently there have been makeup brands that have launched pallets without glitter.

More emphasize is on the eye makeup rather than the lips. The lips usually are to have neutral shades to balance the pompous eye looks. You are also encouraged to use colored wigs for flairs. The makeup isn’t super blended as well. It’s very sharp edge and most of the colors are distinct from the other. Green can be mixed with Pink and that is totally acceptable. Also, you can get creative with creating contrasts and designs. So, let us know if you would like to create a Goth look with Technicolor makeup.
