Moonchild: an interesting Goth idea?

So, here is a classic understanding of what a moonchild is. It is a person born under the astrological sign of cancer. Since this particular zodiac is thought be ruled by emotions and intuition (feminine energies), they are considered to be moonchilds. However, another new notion is emerging that talks about how anyone is a Moonchild if they feel connected to the moon.

Now, how we are relating it to the idea of being on the platform of moon. Since moon is sometimes seen as a symbolism of darkness and secrets (tarot card divination especially links it to secrets), it also is seen as a part of the Goth culture because it beautifully portrays a lot of tangent of metaphors that the culture perpetuates. This point is left to the reader to interpret. However, there is an interesting idea of the representation of this Moonchild.

Artists have tried to draw it in a lot of senses of being dark, evil, angelic, innocence or both. However, it has not been recreated as a fashion look and we are curious as to if we can actually try it. Why? Because you can be as dark as the moon, as bright as it or as angelic as Keats describes it to be. It can even fit into a plethora of different backgrounds of Pastel Goth, Romantic Goth, White Goth or any other stereotype you want to fit it into.

Here are some basics we think would comprise her look:

  • A sense of etherealness

Dunk yourself into a stream of shimmery highlighters, use colors of purple, pink and silvers to give yourself that goddess glow. It would give you that soft, glowing feminine aesthetic.

  • Inspire it from a goddess

There are many goddess figures across cultures that represent the moon. For example, in the Greek mythology, Selene is the goddess of the moon but Hekate (Hecate) also corresponds to it. Similarly, Artemis is the Celtic goddess of the moon and Luna is the counterpart of Selene in the Roman mythology. There can be an interesting interpretation of these goddesses to create the Moonchild.

  • Take a water background

Science explains how the moon connects with the waters. Go ahead and take that as a background. A Moonchild can only stay in touch with the moon as close as she /he is close to the water. They go hand in hand.

  • Go full experimental mode

In some interpretations, the Moonchild is a werewolf and we all love that twist in the tale. Sinister yet dark and interesting to create. There are Moon witches that exist that can also match your aesthetic. You can go full fairy or banshee. Nobody cares as long as we know the moon up there is as impatient to embrace you as you are.

These are the things we thought of. If you need bit of a help with the color pallet, you can go for the classic green and blue, the two colors associated with the moon. This is a mere suggestion though. Do tag us in your Moonchild pictures and let us know what you think of this article.
